National Aviation Day Celebration

For our 4th Annual Celebration on Saturday, August 15th, we are pulling out all the stops to make this our biggest year yet! We are checking off every single one of those traditions under one roof and turning the U.S. Army Aviation Museum into a massive community festival.

Here is what you can look forward to:

  • The Training Support Facility’s main gallery will be fully open to the public, offering a rare look at the historic airframes, experimental designs, and unique vertical flight lineages in our reserve collection.
  • Our amazing community partners are hosting hands-on science activities right at their booths, letting kids explore the physics of lift, propulsion, and flight mechanics.
  • The Friends of Army Aviation are flying in a historic UH-1 Huey! Come feel the thump of the blades, see this legendary icon up close on the ramp, and talk to the crew.
  • The Fort Rucker Fire Department is rolling up with their massive emergency engines and ladder trucks. Meet our local heroes and check out the specialized gear used to keep our airfields safe.
  • Watch the world-record holder – John “The Paper Airplane Guy” Collins – fold and fly impossible designs, then join a hands-on session to master the engineering behind the perfect paper airplane fold!
  • Step inside the digital dome traveling down from the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville for an immersive tour of the cosmos and starry celestial navigation.
  • Explore tables stretching across the museum campus featuring local vendors and over 50 community partners and authors ready to share incredible historical stories.
  • Plan to stay for lunch! We will have a fantastic lineup of local food trucks on-site so you can grab a bite while enjoying the festival.

Whether you want to explore rare reserve airframes, grab some local food, or dive into hands-on science, this is the ultimate Wiregrass celebration of flight. Bring the whole family—admission is entirely free!
