Our Collection

The US Army Aviation Museum Collection

The US Army Aviation Museum is the repository of Army Aviation's material culture. The Museum focuses on presenting a clear narrative of the evolution of Army Aviation from 1908 to the present. This narrative presentation demonstrates the impacts of key-leaders, innovators, technology, inter-service rivalries, and an evolving doctrine to fight and win the nation's wars has had on the aircraft selected to support the Soldier and Commander on the ground in every possible way.

The Museum collects and preserves original, restored, replica, and reproduction aircraft and artifacts. The vast majority of the collection is original, only a very small percentage of artifacts in the collection are replica or reproduction items. This contingency is in place when original or restored examples of those artifacts are either unattainable or unaffordable.

  • Original artifacts are in its as built, or modified by the user, configuration that remains unaltered from the time it ended its operational service.
  • Restored artifacts are composed of at least 50% of the original components and the remainder returned to accurate period condition using the same materials, components, and accessories.
  • Replica artifacts are built, in part or in total, by the fabricator of the original aircraft which have substantially the same type engine and operating systems as the original manufacturing run.
  • Reproduction artifacts are a reasonable visible facsimile of a production aircraft built with similar construction techniques which use the same type engine and operating systems.
