Heritage

Follow us on an exciting journey through Army Aviation’s proud past. Beginning with those first hydrogen-filled balloons used during the civil war, we’ll look back to the acquisition of the first Wright Model B in 1909, the use of “Grasshoppers” as organic air observation for field artillery during World War II, and the Army’s first helicopter, the XR-4. We will explore the role of the H-13 and H-19 during the Korean conflict, the introduction of the UH-1 Iroquois and AH-1 Cobra in Vietnam, and the battle testing of the AH-64 Apache during Panama and Desert Storm.
